Adelfio J. García is an advocate of students learning in two or more languages. His experiences in education range from Bilingual Teacher, Special Education Teacher, District Facilitator, Assistant Principal, and K-8 Principal within the Chicago Public Schools and Suburban School Districts. In his different teaching and administrative roles in urban education serving students from Latin America, he supported teachers implementing strategies and methodologies that best apply to the student population they serve. Adelfio recently earned his doctorate in Reading and language inspired by his work with Mexican families and students. His research interests include biliteracy, transnational literacies, translanguaging and teacher development. He provides professional development in Spanish and English for teachers, parents, and administrators. He currently serves as a board member for the Illinois Writing Project. Naomi Khalil has been working in the area of Equity for over 20 years. In this work, Ms. Khalil leads a number of initiatives, including but not limited to: district diversity initiatives (student lead diversity program, activities for staff and parents, Social Justice training, Civil Rights compliance officer); civic literacy initiatives and programming for English Learners. Ms. Khalil has native fluency in Spanish and has lived and traveled extensively abroad. This vast experience, coupled with her own ethnic background and life experience, allows Ms. Khalil to bring a unique, yet powerful perspective to the world of diversity work. She is a board member of MOASH (Michigan Organiztion for Adolescent Sexual Health) and trained Gender Spectrum facilitator. At SupportEd, Diane serves as project lead for all the teams’ work and communicates directly with clients, including schools, school districts, state departments of education, organizations, and the U.S. Department of Education. Diane is an author of five books (including Unlocking English Learners’ Potential: Strategies for Making Content Accessible and Advocating for English Learners: A Guide for Educators), a blogger for the Coloran Colorado website, and a frequent keynote presenter on EL education at conferences across North America. Diane was a research associate at George Washington University’s Center for Excellence and Equity in Education, spent a decade as an ESOL teacher, dual language assessment teacher, and ESOL assessment specialist in Fairfax County Public Schools, VA, and taught English in Mexico and Germany. She earned her Ph.D. in Multilingual/Multicultural Education with an emphasis in Literacy at George Mason University. She earned her MAT in TESOL at the School for International Training and her Masters in German at Penn State University. She lives in Fairfax, VA with her husband, three school-age kids who learned math and science through Spanish in their public elementary school, a dog, a crested gecko, and two budgies. Diane speaks fluent Spanish and German, grew up on a dairy farm in New York States Finger Lakes region, and is a first-generation college graduate.

Fernanda Marinho Kray, Ph.D., a polyglot educator and researcher, is the content lead for the WIDA ELD Standards Framework Project. Over the years, Fernanda has served as a classroom teacher, instructional coach, family & community liaison, program coordinator, and member of various district and state-level leadership teams. Presently, she is a governing board member of the Regional Educational Laboratory Program (REL) for the Institute of Education Sciences (IES), a founding member of the multi-state REL NEI English Learner Alliance, and a founding member of the Portuguese Language Partnership for Education. Fernanda has authored an array of materials in the field of education and directed local and large-scale policy and practice-oriented projects, frequently collaborating with practitioners and scholars from across the globe. Jen's teaching experience includes high school language arts and ESL, graduate teacher ed courses, and professional learning and coaching for in-service K-12 teachers (ESL, bilingual, and general education).
Jen holds a masters in Curriculum and Instruction (ESOL) and a doctorate in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies, which focused on language program leadership in rural settings. She is a Certified Professional in Talent Development (ATD) and holds a Teaching Online Certificate (QM). She has directed research and evaluation studies on English learners and their program designs for the Carnegie Corporation of New York, the Rockefeller Foundation, the U.S. Department of Education, the U.S. Department of Justice, and the Southern Poverty Law Center, among others. Viviana Hall a native of Bogota, Colombia has more than 20 years of experience in bilingual education. She began her teaching career in the bilingual classroom at Garland ISD and quickly joined acclaimed bilingual teacher training programs as a faculty member in north Texas universities including: Southern Methodist University, SMU and Texas Tech University, TTU.

Viviana is the former Academic Director of Ana G. Mendez University System (AGMUS), Dallas Campus and she has been selected to represent the Texas Education Agency, TEA in two critical roles: First, as the Campus Improvement Team and currently, as a Lead Reviewer for Spanish/ Bilingual resources. As a co-founder of Global VIDA, she has been able to work with Dr. Stephen Krashen, Dr. Kathy Escamilla, and Dr. William Pulte, in a fight against the teacher shortage in bilingual education. Her work supporting Spanish reading instruction in bilingual schools in the US and abroad, has been instrumental in her role as a Dual Language Subject Matter Expert for Istation.

Astrid Emily Francis is a nationally recognized English as a Second Language teacher at Concord High School in Concord, North Carolina. She serves students in 9th-12th grade with various English proficiency levels. Emily is a native Spanish-speaker who is originally from Guatemala, and came to the U.S. as an unaccompanied minor. Her experience as an English Language Learner inspired her to become an ESL teacher and affords her a deep understanding of the challenges her students must overcome to find success. Emily earned a BA in Spanish and a MAT in ESL from UNC-Charlotte. She serves as a professional development facilitator, motivational speaker, and Keynote. Emily forms part of the Executive Board of The Carolinas TESOL (teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages).

Aloise Miller has worked in bilingual education since 1988. Her career began in Migrant Education and El Teatro Campesino followed by two years as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Lesotho. She has worked as a bilingual educator in Texas since 1998. The last 10 years Aloise has supported teachers as a curriculum specialist and an educational consultant.

Andrea Smith is the Reading Recovery Specialist and ML teacher and teacher consultant for K-5 at Fowlerville Community Schools. Andrea received an ESL endorsement along with her B.A. degree in Elementary and Special Education from Michigan State University. She also earned her M.A. in educational technology from MSU as well.

As an immigrant herself, Andrea’s favorite thing about her job is being an advocate and liaison for her students. She also loves thinking and learning about new ways to help her students connect to their family culture and develop a passion for learning language.

In her free time, Andrea loves to volunteer with animals and travel with her husband. She also loves spending time reading and relaxing by the fireplace with her 2 cats and 1 dog, her family, and her friends."

Megan Syed is an ELL Coach at Lincoln Park Public Schools. After receiving her MA in Educational Psychology, she decided to pursue an additional MA in English Language Learning (PreK-12). She has been teaching ESL students for 13 years and could not imagine doing anything else! Megan is dedicated to teaching in ways that promote creativity, joy, innovation, and set high expectations for all students. Her passion is using themed lessons and music to drive engagement in her classroom, as well as, creating resources for other educators on her Teachers Pay Teachers website (Enlightening Ells). Additionally, Megan was chosen as Teacher of the Year for two consecutive years at Earhart Elementary-Middle School and has

She is passionate about culturally responsive teaching and improving instruction for English Learners in both elementary and secondary settings. Ms. Alvarez’s undergraduate work was focused on elementary education, mathematics, science, and English Learners. She holds a master’s degree in Bilingual Bicultural Education with an administrator endorsement.

Sergio Keck is the Deputy Superintendent of Special Populations and Programs for the Lansing School District. His areas of supervision include: Bilingual Education, Special Education, Universal Preschools, Adult Education, Career Technical Education, Youth Center, and WIOA programs. He has served as a teacher, assistant principal, principal and director of various educational programs throughout his career. Mr. Keck established a highly successfully Chinese-Immersion Program and a year later, created a Spanish-Immersion program for elementary school students. In addition, he implemented an alternative blended model of instruction designed to provide options for disengaged high school students seeking to graduate. He established a Bilingual Education department and Accountability and School Improvement office, and most recently opened a Welcome Center for the school district.

He is committed to helping communities develop global citizens and to this end, has cultivated cross-national partnerships and programs with China, South Korea, Japan, and Lansing Regional Sister Cities.

Mr. Keck is originally from Argentina and obtained his undergraduate and graduate degrees from Eastern Michigan and Michigan State Universities.

Suzy Khoury is a college professor and a researcher. She studied Executive Administrative Assistance, received a bachelor’s degree in English Language & Literature, and a bachelor's in Public Relations and Publicity from Lebanese University. She completed her post bachelor’s at Michigan State University in Secondary Teacher Education. She received her master's degree in Educational Administration for Higher Education from Michigan State University. She is currently a doctoral student in Organizational Leadership and Development at Cornerstone University. Suzy is a certified trainer in Language & Literacy and a certified SIOP instructional coach. She teaches Intercultural Organizational Communication, Educational Psychology, Linguistics, and Academic Strategies at Great Lakes Christian College. Her expertise includes teaching in Lebanon, China, and the USA. Suzy is the founder of the ESL Steering Committee for Lansing Public Schools. She held a Public Speaker position and mentored public speakers at the Department of Attorney General of Michigan for 11 years. Her presentations empowered the citizens through Educational and Consumer Protection Programs; investment fraud, identify theft, and cyber safety. Suzy teaches English Honors and 12th grade ELA at Sexton High School (Big Reds Do Big Things!). She gives piano lessons on weekends and believes that music bridges the minds and hearts of students to create a healing space. Having lived in a war zone for the first 15 years of her life, Suzy is grateful for the gift of life. Her greatest achievement is being a parent to her 16 years old daughter, Adreana (DeeDee).

Andrew Rodgers is proud to have worked in education for over 20 years as an elementary classroom teacher, bilingual literacy coach, assistant principal, and now as an ELL Coach. He holds a Master of Arts in Education from the University of Michigan and has received an Education Specialist's degree in Administrative Leadership from Wayne State University, where he also completed coursework toward his Bilingual-Spanish and English as a Second Language endorsements. Andrew is a certified SIOP and WIDA standards trainer and believes in the transformative power of targeted English Learner training for teachers and making cultural connections with students. In his free time, Andrew enjoys traveling, slowly and surely working toward his goal of visiting every state in Mexico and every country in Central America. In addition, he strives to return to the glory days of running the Detroit Free Press half-marathon every fall, but is not there just yet.
